Recovery Grants Impact Films

October 25, 2021 by Natalie

To measure the impact of our Recovery Grant Programme in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and The National Lottery Community Fund, we produced 8 films with RankNet members. The Recovery Grant Programme was designed to support Ranknet charities and social enterprises with urgent and immediate financial needs as a result of the pandemic.

Edible London

Preventing food waste, tackling food poverty and revitalising grey urban areas by turning them into green accessible growing spaces. Sonny, Paolo and the Edible London team showed us the impact of their work throughout the pandemic.

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust are small charity doing big things in the Yorkshire Dales. They help to look after the spectacular Dales landscape. We met the team in Giggleswick to hear how they are responding to the climate emergency, tree-planting with volunteers, supporting asylum seekers and their apprenticeship programme.

Reaching Higher

Reaching Higher challenge young people to be leaders of their own lives. We visited the Football Academy and met Bryan and Alfie who discussed the challenges of lockdown but also the positives and the impact they can have on young people as coaches.

Street Factory

‘Respect, Peace, Love, Unity and having Fun’ Street Factory based in Plymouth use hip-hop to support individuals to discover their individual genius. Toby G and Jo, spoke to us about how they adapted to the pandemic by going digital and using zoom to connect with a care home as well as the Toby G Dance Challenge.

Lindley Educational Trust

Meet Renha who is the Ashton Community Project Lead at Lindley Educational Trust who told us about the importance of engaging with young people through detached youth work in Ashton, Greater Manchester, the importance of the countryside and fresh air as well as adapting to the lockdown with local walks.

YKids

YKids equip children and young people to become world changers. YKids CEO Claire talks of the challenges of the pandemic but also how as a community they brought a little fun into what was a very difficult time.

Leicestershire Cares

Leicestershire Cares broker partnerships and create opportunities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland that enable the business sector to understand community needs and contribute to the growth of inclusive, safe communities. This film demonstrates the wide range of work and includes ZamZam who is a 2021 Time to Shine leader.

Jamie’s Farm

Jamie’s Farm offers young people the opportunity to flourish in education, at home and in the community by rolling up their sleeves and putting on their wellies. Cory, a young pupil from inner city Bristol, describes how his mindset towards work changed after a week at the farm.

Rank Conference 2021: Take Stock and Reset

October 20, 2021 by Natalie

This year, The Rank Foundation’s annual conference was held in Leeds with the theme ‘Take Stock and Reset’.

The challenges of the pandemic greatly influenced the third sector and consequently the conference. With this in mind, we held yoga and mindfulness sessions as we brought together RankNet members, Time to Shine leaders, Rank Aspire members, beneficiary organisations and external funders.

The delegates participated in interactive insight and foresight panels, a leadership seminar, and the Time to Shine showcases, with special musical performances in the evening.  It was the biggest event since 2019 for the Foundation.

It was humbling to see how leaders in our network adapted their organisations to the challenges of the pandemic and their hopes for the future going forward.  We would like to thank everyone who attended and participated both in person and digitally.

“Don’t wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain”

The Recovery Grant Impact film, which was shown at the conference, is now on The Rank Foundation’s YouTube channel along with the 8 in-depth films of each organisation who featured.

£1.6 million awarded to Plymouth

October 18, 2021 by Natalie

In September, the Rank Network came together at Market Hall in Plymouth for the phase two launch of our Plymouth place-based programme awarding £1.6 million to Plymouth social enterprises with a particular focus on projects tackling loneliness and social isolation.

35 Social Enterprises

The Rank Foundation began place-based funding in Plymouth back in 2018. Year on year, the organisations funded by Rank have shown spirit, collaboration, and learning. To find out more about the 35 social enterprises involved in phase one, view this special edition of Stone House Voice.

Upshot in Plymouth: an Evaluation

Upshot is a performance management tool which is used by many of The Rank Foundation-supported organisations. For some, it is a condition of their grant that they use this evaluation tool in order to provide evidence of their work, set targets for themselves and measure their impact within the community. The brochure, produced by Emma Ridley our Plymouth Officer, highlights those ambitious targets, their geographic reach, evidence-based media and some rich case studies. It provides an interesting mix of quantitative analysis with qualitative material, particularly those stories which detail how they have responded to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. View the Upshot report here.

This video is a summary of the event hosted at Market Hall. Special thanks to Real Ideas for hosting.
