Funding Young Leaders’ Community Placements

Each year a group of young people with high leadership potential are selected to take part in Community Action Placements within the Rank Network.

Participants will be in their final two years of sixth form (aged 16-18) and part of our Leadership Award scheme. They do two placements over a two-year period at Rank Network member organisations. These organisations range from youth clubs, community cafes, elderly care services, and educational trusts.

We are always looking to expand the group of charities that already host placements and we offer a grant to the host organisation for the placement.

Who can host a Community Action Placement?

Placements are hosted by Rank Network member organisations. We welcome interest from all Network organisations and offer a grant for the placement.

Whether your organisation is new to the Network or you simply didn't know about our Leadership Award Scheme - you can apply.

Where and when do placements happen?

The placement will take place at at Rank Network organisation, with the young person travelling to the location from their home or school.

Placements usually take place over the summer holidays.

Hosting a Community Action Placement

We ask CAP hosts to offer safe accommodation suitable for a young person aged 16-18. Y

Hosts will need to ensure that all meals are provided or easily purchased for the young person, and that they are included in some evening activities. All accommodation costs are covered by our CAP grants.

For hosts that can't offer a residential placement, we try to organise for Leadership Award Holders to commute to their placement every day. This relies on the placement being accessible by public transport or an offer transport, but also on the Award holder being local to the placement.

Get in touch if you can host a placement, even if it is non-residential.

What happens on a Community Action Placement?

The young person will be expected to fulfill a full-time role, working alongside other young people and/or adults for the duration of their placement, with supervision. The student may have particular skills to draw on, such as research or sport. We ask hosts to provide an interesting and varied experience which is of benefit to both the project and the young person.
