Leadership with Legacy: Caroline Broadhurst Named CEO of The Rank Foundation

26 Jun 2025   /   Nhung Phung

The Rank Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Caroline Broadhurst as its new Chief Executive Officer, following David Sanderson’s departure.

Caroline stepped into the role on 5 June 2025 with a deep connection to Rank’s mission, values and work, having been with the Foundation since 2006. As Deputy CEO since 2014, Caroline has played a central role in shaping the Foundation’s place-based philanthropy strategy and championing grassroots social leadership across the UK.

The Rank Foundation will continue to back social sector leaders through its Network, programmes and learning opportunities. Place-based philanthropy – focused on long-term investment in locations such as Sunderland, Plymouth and Dundee – became a hallmark of its approach during David’s tenure – and will continue under Caroline’s leadership.

Reflecting on the appointment, Caroline said:

“It’s a privilege to have worked alongside David Sanderson and our inspiring Network for so many years and now I’m proud to lead The Rank Foundation into its next chapter. Our mission remains rooted in people and place – investing in communities and the leaders within them. I will build on this legacy by listening to the Rank Network and working collaboratively to strengthen communities across the UK.”

The Rank Foundation’s Chair of the board, Will Wyatt said:

“On behalf of the Board, I’m delighted to welcome Caroline as the new Chief Executive of The Rank Foundation. Caroline has been intimately involved in many of our existing programmes and has played a critical role in Rank’s evolvement under the stewardship of her predecessor.  The continuity that Caroline brings, mixed with her innovative approach and knowledge of the sector, will allow Rank to continue to maximise the impact of its work.

I have every confidence that Caroline will lead the Foundation with vision and compassion as we move into our next chapter.”

The Foundation will begin a listening and strategic planning exercise in Autumn 2025, while continuing to deliver on its leadership, enterprise and place-based programmes as usual.

If you have any questions about the appointment, please send them to info@rankfoundation.com FAO Louise Kavanagh.
