The Rank Foundation’s starting point for place-based work is not looking at what is wrong with a community but building on its assets and investing in its potential.

Place-based philanthropy is not new. It is an approach that targets a specific location—be it a neighbourhood, a city, or a county—to focus charitable resources. We know that an independent funder can only transform a place if it convenes, listens to and connects the people within that community who experience and understand the local challenges.

We take a research-driven, relationship-based approach to build on an area’s strengths.
